The Disney’s go to Florida

As one last vacation before Donna started school again, the 4 Disney’s took a road trip to Atlantic Beach, Florida to visit Kandi, Jason, and Jaden.

We left Tuesday morning and drove through Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and then on to Florida. After about 10 hours of driving and a couple of stops for food, gas and just to stretch, we made it to Florida! We met up with Kandi & Jaden at Ihop so the 4 of us could have some dinner and then we could follow Kandi to her place.

On Wednesday we went out with Jason and Jaden. They showed us around Atlantic Beach and Downtown Jacksonville and some of the cool houses, architecture and bodies of water that were in their area. We met Kandi at her work and chatted with her for a bit, and saw the building she works in. Then when she got off of work, we went to Hanna Park and played on the beach there.

Our first vacation & first time at the beach together

Our first vacation & first time at the beach together

When we went back to the house, we had Chinese food for dinner and Jaden, Garrett & I tried out the pool at their complex. It was awesome!

On Thursday, Jason had to work, so Garrett & I took Donna & Bill out and about around town. We took them to the nice mall so that we could walk around and shop for some clothes that Garrett & I could wear while we were down there (aka Donna wanted to buy us some summer clothes to have). That night, we went to Salt Life for dinner, an amazing seafood place that had some really great food. Garrett had a Boil bowl, and really enjoyed it. I had a shrimp and pineapple dish that was awesome and we got the calamari appetizer to try, and it was yummy! We asked Jaden if he wanted to try the calamari, and he did. When he found out that it was a type of squid, he was a bit grossed out but then he admitted that he did enjoy the calamari and ate some more. We were a very proud aunt and uncle 🙂

Friday had Garrett & I going to a local game shop that we enjoyed, and then over to Courtney & Shay’s to see what Jason and Shay do with their business, Frickin Laserz. Jason gave us a demo of the laser cutter and gave Garrett some sample pieces we can use while gaming here in KY. Hopefully we can get some of the samples to some of the local gaming stores so that they can potentially order them and sell them in their stores.

After that we took Donna & Bill out to Hugenot Beach, where we could drive right up on the beach. We had to take the ferry to get there, but that was a ton of fun.

We found a little burger shack on the way to the beach, so stopped and got some food to munch on. We then went out to the beach (and got stuck) :/  but we got some help from a very nice man and were able to collect some shells and walk around a bit before we left.

When we got back to the house, Garrett & I went for a swim while waiting for Jason & Kandi to be done with work, and then we went to Wasabi’s for dinner, an awesome Japanese steak house. We sat at the hibachi tables and had some very good food. Garrett & I also got some sushi, which was amazing.

Saturday was Jason’s birthday, so we spent the day at Courtney & Shay’s house (Jason’s cousin & business partner). We went swimming in their pool (until we heard thunder & saw lightning nearby) and then we hung out, played with their kids, and had a very nice tillapia and shrimp dinner, made by Kandi & Courtney. Then brownies for dessert and games for the adults. Hand & Foot for Shay, Bill, Garrett & me and Clue for Courtney, Donna, Kandi, & Jason. We finished the night having a ton of fun and then headed back to the house so the 4 of us could sleep before we left on Sunday.

Sunday we packed and loaded the car, and headed back to Kentucky.

New Adventure

On July 10 Garrett & I moved to London, KY, into the basement apartment at his parent’s house. We were originally going to move down here in May when his sister & brother-in-law moved out, but with Garrett’s promising job at Microsoft, and my consistent job, we decided to stay in Lexington.

Fast forward to July. I was miserable at my job, and Garrett was getting about 20 hours a week at Microsoft. So we were both miserable, broke and had no idea what to do. The week before the move, Garrett’s parent’s large screen TV had fallen over, and then a few days later their sink exploded. We weren’t able to come down to help them fix it, and that was eating Garrett up. We both felt bad that his parent’s were alone with no one super close to help them out, and while we were only about an hour and a half away, if we didn’t have the money for gas, we couldn’t come down.

So I was getting over being sick, and dragging my feet to get to work when Garrett brought up the idea to me, then we discussed it and called his parents to chat about it. I remember hearing Bill ask, “can you come down today?” And we said we’d like to but don’t  have the funds. So Donna & Bill rented a trailer, grabbed the truck and headed to Lexington to get us. So we packed up our stuff and the car while we waited for them, and then we loaded up the trailer and truck and moved to London. From the time we made the call to the time we were unloaded in London, it was about 9 hours.

Since then, Garrett and I have been looking for jobs and last week we went on vacation with Bill & Donna to visit Garrett’s sister, Kandi, her husband Jason, and their son Jaden. Donna started school again today (students start Thursday) so we got about 4 days in Florida before Donna started school.

We’re still looking for jobs, though Garrett is planning on getting his old business up and running, while I’m still hoping for a nice office job somewhere.

Stay tuned for the entry about our vacation!
